It's that time again! Here are some upcoming anime that look to be newest additions to the Magical Girl Genre for the Spring, 2014 Season
Mahou Shoujo Taisen
"The Characters are Magical Girls that represent each Japanese Local Town."
Other than that, I have no idea what this show will be about, but I'm gonna guess that these girls will be fighting each other. Who knows, it might be fun.
Soul Eater Not! (up to debate I guess)
"Soul Eater Not! is a side-story to the main series, focusing on a freshman halberd named Tsugumi Harudori, who befriends two other meisters, Meme Tatane and Anya Hepburn. All three take part in the NOT (Normally Overcome Target) class at DWMA and learn to control their powers in order to overcome their difficulties to have a normal life"
Lady Jewelpet
6th Jewelpet series
"Momona is a regular middle school girl who adores her brother. One day when attending his wedding, she stumbled onto a white rabbit named Ruby and was transported to a strange new world called Jewel Land. Ruby revealed to her that she is a Jewelpet and she chose Momona to be her partner in becoming a Ladyjewel Candidate. Having no choice, she and Ruby must compete together in the Jewel Palace in order for her to become Jewel Land's next Queen."
Honorable Mention: Soredemo Sekai wa Utsukushii [Still, the World is Beautiful]
"Nike, the determined princess of the Rain Dukedom who has a mysterious power: she can control rainfall. She is forced to unwillingly marry the king of the Sun Kingdom, Livius I. Livius (or Livi for short) conquered the world in three years, and is known as the "Dreadful King." The story follows the two who, while at first are a married couple only in name, gradually begin to establish an emotional bond with one another"
Mentioned because her rain summoning powers, shoujo demographic, and the fantasy setting. The romance is the main focus though.
--------
a little slim this season, but which ones are you looking forward to?
I'm actually kinda looking forward to Soul Eater Not. I had never been interested in the original series, but this spin-off looks cute and covered in pastels.
I'm also hoping Mahou Shoujo Taisen will not be disappointing. The winning contest designs look cute.

Here's one I missed just because I couldn't really figure out what it was supposed to be about. But
selector infected WIXOSS
Plot (from MAL): "WIXOSS is a card game that's popular with teenagers. Supposedly there exist "Rulig Cards," female character cards with wills of their own. Special girls can hear the voices of the Ruligs, and those who possess them are called Selectors. These Selectors have card battles in a dimension that other humans cannot access. It's said that whoever triumphs in these battles will have their wish granted. Ruko Kominato is the latest girl to find a Rulig card. She names hers Tama, and without any further explanation is thrown into her life as a Selector."
So it's like part Rozen Maiden, part Yu-gi-oh. with a coat of "Madodarkness" for marketing. Actually its reminds me of a darker take on "Fantasista Doll" from the Summer 2013 season (does anyone remember that show XD)
Honestly, the first episode of WIXOSS was pretty bad. It'll probably be fun to watch in a making-fun-of-how-edgy-it-is sort of way but really in terms of story, characters and stuff, it so far seems even less engaging than Fantasista Doll or Gen'ei o Kakeru Taiyou, which is pretty impressive since both of those shows were more or less awful. That said, much like Fantasista Doll and Gen'ei Taiyou, it at least is visually nice-looking.
I'm not really sure it's much of a magical girl show though, other than that the LRIGs have outfit changes when they power up.

yeah, WIXOSS seems pretty bad so far XD but who knows, it could turn into a "So bad its good" kindof shows where you and your friends are hanging around like "you wanna know what anime really stinks?" so you watch and laugh at it.
I think it counts enough because of: the fighting powered girls, magical creatures that only they can see, traveling to a fantasy dimension, the "Fight for a wish to be granted",and young girls learning about themselves and others through fantastical happenings.
and if Fantasista Doll counts, I think its fair enough to let WIXOSS a pass in. It's definitely on that edge of "sorta"
Reading about WIXOSS sounds like I'm reliving Digimon Tamers (Another edgy deconstruction anime) in particular because a big part of Tamers was that there was a card game based on Digimon but at the same time Digimon were real, and the cards were used in battling real Digimon.

Wixoss's name has been coming up a lot lately in tumblr. As expected it's getting a lot of comparisons from Madoka.
For those who don't want to be spoiled about the contents of the show, just understand that it's one of those dark and edgy suffering anime. For those who don't mind spoilers, it gets deeper than that.
Spoiler:
-The girls play this card game in order to become something called an Eternal Girl and have their wish granted. -Losing three times at the card game causes them to not only have their memory erased, but their wish turns into a curse that punishes them. -Becoming an Eternal Girl is basically fancy talk for becoming the very cards they use to battle.
And of course there's no way out of any of this.
I don't know the exact details because I've only read the tropes page and wikipedia. One girl is even compared to Sayaka because she's the main character's best friend, her wish involves an unrequited crush and she is the first to become a witch-I mean LRIG card. ...It's GIRL backwards....

yikes. :/
maybe when PMMM's influence in adult anime runs dry we should hold a contest for biggest rip off.
In other news, I caught up with Mahou Shoujo Taisen. For something I thought would be a total waste of time is actually enjoyable. Short and Sweet if I may say.

Anime production company Doga Kobo has announced its latest project and it’s an original one. The project is called BREETSCHLAG, and a few info is out on the studio’s official website.
Quote :
It will feature magical-themed battles with the use of tablets. The heroine is a young girl named Seira Kazuki.
From what I can tell on other sites this is also another collaboration with Pixiv too. The character art looks cute in any case. More info will be revealed in August.

Okay so, those of you who are very familiar with the Lyrical Nanoha series might be familiar with Vivid, the spinoff starring Nanoha and Fate's adopted daughter Vivio.
Well apparently this blatant pedo-fest is getting an anime spinoff.

Here we have an official site with nothing in it.
