A lot parts made me laugh. Mamoru you are such a dork at the end. Trying to be like Batman to impress Usagi?   

I'm only gripe is that there are times where there should have been moment and there wasn't. Like it would been nice to see how the brooch appeared or see Usagi gush about her brooch. I didn't want to see her butt animators! You are lazy! 

As a whole I was quite pleased. I'm not in love with it. I don't think I ever will unless they do a complete 180 and start to take their own spin on things. Please! Please do!!!!

woke up early to watch the simulcast, and not gonna lie that opening scene with Serenity and Endymion choked me up and i almost started to cry XD

I really really really like the backgrounds in this show. Usagi's room was so cute >< You can tell they put alot of thought into the details.
Also, I've never thought Mamoru was hot until Crystal Mamoru came around. dang.

the 2 week waiting periods are going to be the death of me. Being a Sailor Moon fan means you hafta have the patience of a snail sometimes I swear. 


Nitpicky complaint fart:
-I still think a newer Usagi voice actress would've been better. (Like if Kotono Mitsuishi had played Ikuko-mama and some other girl was usagi that'd would've been better maybe?) Since everything is so new and all the other voice actresses are more contemporary it feels like 90's Usagi just crashed into some other anime XD. maybe thats just my own mental thing tho.

Woo, just finished the first episode of Crystal~ Thankfully Crunchyroll's release already has subs, so I can support the industry.

Now for my episode breakdown.

= The Good =

-The scenery! Very pretty.
-Mamo-chan with glasses!
-Naru is a cutie. Maybe now I'll finally have some memory of her that doesn't involve that horrible dub accent.
-Usagi's crying was actually amusing, rather than annoying, especially when she weaponized it.
-The two year wait is finally over!

= The Neutral =

-The OST sounds too much like Precure. I guess it's not a bad thing, but it doesn't sound as beautiful as I would have expected. It's more cheerful and bouncy. Same goes for the OP.
-The ED Sequences I would be surprised that it's not a dancing ED, but this isn't exactly airing on TV.

= The Bad =

-The faces... take some getting used to.



Like the sheer amount of detail put into the lips. It's not something I'm used to seeing in anime. Her eyes are disturbingly larger than her mouth. XD Mamo's face is also really pointy but his chin is flat. By the second half of the episode I wasn't really paying attention to this stuff though.

-The Transformation Sequence. Even in 720p it doesn't look good. Usagi looks even more twiggy in the transformation sequence than in the anime itself. Also, refer to my previous comment about Precure music. The music that plays during the transformation sounds like a hybrid of Suite's and Smile's transformation musics.

On a side note, I had actually tried to start the original anime a year or two ago, but was massively put off by Usagi's voice. Maybe it's because I'm used to it now (from Hummy and Amane) but it's actually not annoying at all now.

there are parts of the transformation that look good, but over-all the CGI just seems unnecessary. Maybe its just easier/cheaper to apply effects to CGI? 

but everything is so finely detailed then you get to the transformation and its all blobby in places.

but anime has a way of refining things once it reaches enough episodes or for the home video release

(aikatsu for example)


so hopefully the same with happen with sailor moon

They got a composer from Precure so that's why it sounds all Precure like. XD

Honestly, I really enjoyed the first episode! It took a while to get used to the art style, but I think it's really pretty :-) xx

Like Link said, art needs getting used to, but voice acting exceeds my expectations. On another side...Mamoru and glasses hm...I dunno. It's worth watching though. Let's hope it stays that way.

It's nice to know that this is what we waited two years for. Well... it is Toei.

I've also noticed that Crystal refuses to delve into the more comical animations, almost like this show's trying to be more realistic. For example...



It's like... they worked so hard to create this extremely shoujo image and then they were like "We have this face.... now how do we emote it." 

And I don't want to hear any garbage about how "Usagi’s facial expressions and emotional responses work exactly like they do in every other modern day anime" Tell that to Fairy Tail, Fulmetal Alchemist, or even Precure. And if comical and exaggerated expressions are dated, than why do we even have those? Even shows that are much less comical in nature have an easier time showing noticeably different expressions.

On a side note, I'm okay with Ami's new voice. She doesn't sound super baby-ish like Cure Peace. She speaks in a softer, more mature sounding tone. She also gets her own transformation (though it seems really short compared to the others, and lacking in detail. Why couldn't they have shortened Usagi's instead? Oh well.



I know this is supposed to be like... her own "In the name of the moon" type thing, but I keep thinking "I, Cure Heart will make your heart race once more!"

Episode 2 was much better than episode 1. I enjoyed watching it way more. There was more moment. But the faces!!! >.< They to emote like Link said. Plus I know what really is bugging me now with their faces. Not only are they narrow and long, but they have lipstick on! Yeah their lipstick is way too much which makes their lips look fat.

Ami's transformation is the exact same as her old anime transformation. She just spins around more. A bit of a let down if you ask me. Oh well at least the CG looks a bit better. Why couldn't they fix's moon's transformation?
