The future is here my fellow trainers...or maybe not? A new pokemon is being developed under this concept "The idea is that players go outside, get some fresh air, and capture Pokemon at the same time.
Using your Iphone, catch, evolve, battle and even special challenges!
Using real world maps."
That's the official line. A Pokemon where you walk or run to catch and battle in REAL time...I dunno and more importantly:
Here's the trailer. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKUwVYUKii4
a brief article about it: http://kotaku.com/new-pokemon-uses-real-world-maps-1729757653?hipra_discussion_redesign=off&utm_expid=66866090-52.r5txldOmRkqnbJxnyozIeA.1&utm_referrer=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.facebook.com
I...truth is I'm amazed at how Japan loves its mobiles...and it seems Nintendo is aiming at mobile markets as expected. Maybe in Japan it works? but here? This is where the cultural clash shows. Will it come? How will it move the players?
I have mixed feelings about this...

Hmmm interesting. I won't get it. I like Pokemon the way it is. I really don't get why Japan likes phone games. I guess because they're so busy?

I thought those AR phone apps that make you look like an idiot in public were more of a late 2000s trend. But I guess Japan's market is different than ours.
It reminds me of that Face Raiders game that comes free with the 3DS that you play once in the privacy of your own home where no one is there to judge you but you never use again because it's kind boring and you could be playing Pokemon or Mario or MGS3 instead.

Apparently the maker behind this made a similar real world app.
This kinda reminds me of what I was hoping Pokemon Dream Radar for the 3DS would be. That combined with that April Fools thing where you had to use your tablet or mobile phone to search google maps and find Pokemon hidden all over the world.

JWittz did a nice video about it. While I do think it's a cool idea. I'm not sure about a lot of things. How popular will this game be outside of Japan? Are you limit to what you can catch base on your location? Will certain types be available only in certain areas? Like Water Pokemon. Do you need to be by some body of water? Also I live in the Midwest in the States. Big events for video games normally don't happen here and I live by a major City. In the app purchases make me nervous too. Finally this game will probably have to use Data. UGHHHHHHH

Got the Pokemon Go Plus for Christmas ( The Pokemon Center website got a stock on the 19th that sold out in six hours. XD ) and it's a very neat device when it wants to work. It wasn't until reading a website online that I've gotten it to start connecting reliably.
Catching stuff is even more of a crapshoot than the normal gameplay, as it's basically a one-chance deal and you can't use anything but regular pokeballs. No berries either. Just push the button and hope for the best.
There's also no way to tell WHAT you're catching, with one exception. It lights up green for a normal pokemon, and yellow for one you've never encountered. And in an area with a lot of Pokestops, it'll be going off constantly. If you fail to catch something, it blips red really quick and vibrates. If you succeed, it goes all rainbow, which is very satisfying.
Doing a field test on bike, I've found that it can't seem to pick up on Pokestops unless I disable the notification for wild Pokemon, or clear them all out first. And even then, there's a significant delay between reaching the Pokestop, and the Plus alerting you to it. Now if you could only set it to filter out Pidgey and Ratata.
So what's the best thing about the Go Plus? Two things. One, you leave your phone's screen off, which drains significantly less battery. To get from my house to the local grocery store on bike normally drains about 20% of the battery. But using the Plus, with the screen off, I barely lose 5%.
Second? EGGS! The Plus tracks your distance even with the screen off, so all you have to do is set it, check it occasionally to see if it disconnects (The Pokeball/Google Map icon should still be on your phone's lock screen) and when you're done doing whatever for several hours, you can turn it back on and watch all your eggs hatch.
Even better? Car trips are a viable method of egg hatching again. Since the Plus only requires you to push one button, it doesn't prevent the game from functioning when you're going faster than 10mph.

Well that's nifty? At least it's good for hatching eggs. lol

Okay, I've since switched from android to iphone and the Pokemon Go Plus connects perfectly every time. The phone itself is much better, and doesn't give me the horrendous lag Go used to on my old phone. 8gb storage vs 16gb is quite a difference. Much better battery life too.
It'll disconnect by itself after about an hour but that's about it.
And with my Pokedex up to 119, I've hit the point where I never see anything new. The only Pokemon left to evolve are stuff that I almost never see, so I have a Geodude as my buddy right now. Gonna be a while before I can get it to become a Golem.

My day has finally come. I turned on my phone this morning and HE appeared. I had to run out and get it.
Turned out to be a female, but still. My #1 favorite Pokemon has finally arrived. Totodile <3 This almost makes up for the sting of NEVER being able to find a Clefairy, even when an event was made to increase their spawn rates.
I wanna make it my buddy, but there are many others that I should prioritize in the candy department. I'm a short way away from getting Magnemite to evolve, as well as Machoke, Grimer, Voltorb and Diglett.

I know only shows like South Park, which is made in a week can catch trends in time, but it's still kind of amusing.
I'm insulted by the notion that you can just buy Pokemon, otherwise I might have plunked some serious money because FRIGGIN CLEFAIRY NEVER APPEARS ANYWHERE EVEN WHEN THERE'S AN EVENT SPECIFICALLY INCREASING ITS APPEARANCE! >: [

Well, after an entire year of playing this game, I finally managed to evolve a Magikarp. I kinda wanted to hold out to see if I could find a shiny, but decided that that wouldn't likely happen any century soon.
I've also got a Dragonair and 90 Candy for it, so that magic will happen soon. Pretty much all I'm missing from the original 150 are a couple of evolved forms like Dugtrio, Magneton, Primeape, the Clefairy line, the region exclusives and legendaries.
Speaking of, since I don't do gym battles there's a high chance I'll not be obtaining any legendaries. A buddy of mine told me that they're not kidding when they say twenty people should participate in raid battles at once, as four couldn't even make a dent in a legendary.
It's a shame they had to do legendaries this way, but with how much of a pain it is for rural folk to stock up on Pokeballs, losing them all to a Lugia would probably be a nightmare.

In general I think they dropped the ball with this app. I enjoy playing it from time to time though. It is fun to chase down mons. I just wish it wasn't grindy.
I agree the whole legendary thing is dumb. I hate the battle system in Go. So I'll never catch a legendary.
