| Here's the MAL link. "Ultra Maniac". When I first heard that title, I assumed that this was a shounen series. It certainly doesn't sound like a magical girl title, does it? The description for the anime is a little confusing, so here's the description for the manga: - My Anime List wrote:
- Nina Sakura is a defunct witch in training from the Magic Kingdom, studying on Earth in hopes of bettering her grades. When the popular Ayu Teteishi stumbles upon a PC she mistakens for a video game, she returns it to Nina. Nina decides to let Ayu in the secret that she's a witch from the Magic Kingdom, and the two become best friends, together dealing with the everydays of friendship and romance.
This series started as a manga, and was adapted into an anime series and OVA. Judging by the release date and synopsis of the OVA, I think that actually was the pilot. I watched the first episode of the actual series, and there was very little explanation of the backstory... Though, it was still pretty easy to follow if you haven't watched the OVA or read the manga. I'm definitely going to check out both of those things, though, because I did enjoy the first episode. It was a bit heavy on the slapstick, but it was quite cute. |

| I have the manga! It's really cute and what I really liked about it is that everyone is really nice to each other and understanding - one of my big pet peeves in shoujo is where everyone is really catty to each other for no reason or could be solved if they just talked to each other for two minutes. It's not very long either, real short and sweet.
I think the anime really puts more emphasis on the magic part. Like they give Nina a rival magical girl and stuff. Heck, Nina's magical girl costume isn't even a thing in the manga. |

| Eng sub here all 26: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLax8Lk--27nZ0llgyXCDrEZb3pYlouiQl
There is even an english dub. I say, the series is interesting with all the boring things being broadcasted, this is a good refresher, and yeah little backstory at the beginning but in a way it pays homage to Sailor Moon:
-The cat, Leo, is a lot like Luna and Artemis. Snarky and smug.
-The guy with glasses, the president who knows it all! Wait...Umino...is that...you?!
-The magical artifact(cute, comedic and loveable) mess up! Much like Usagi did at the beginning, not knowing how to use her pen.
Such wow. Must watch. Rated 8/8 M8. -IGN |

| I was able to find the series itself, thankfully. I just couldn't find the OVA, which was just one 25 minute episode. It was released the year before the series proper was aired, so I think this may have been the explanation for the backstory... I could find it subbed in other languages, but not English. |

| if I remember correctly, it's one of those shows where the backstory is explained in the 4th episode and not the 1st. I guess so kids could get interested in what the show was like and not focus on exposition? |

| I love Ultra Maniac and it's a very interesting series. I have read all of the Manga volumes and watched the Anime series too. What I really love about Ultra Maniac is that it's a series that is very different from other Magical Girl Anime and Manga series that I have watch and/or read before. All of the characters are amazing and relatable, plus Nina is a very funny character too. |
