So recently I joined Serebii's forum. I got to say I am quite impress with the other members there. A lot people have different opinions, but are respectful toward each other. I'm sure they get a few bad eggs every now and then. 

Anywho. I noticed on there that a lot of people like Dawn. She's Ash's travel buddy from the DP series. In the past I tried watching this series, but it was hard for me because of the voices. I grew up with 4kids's dub. So I just skipped it plus I wasn't a huge Pokemon fan, when DP was airing. Later on the voices grew on me when I tried watching both the Best Wishes (Black and White series) and the XY series. So now I thought get DP a chance again. 

So far so good! I just got to the fourth episode and I am really enjoying it. I find myself really liking Dawn. She's perky and outgoing. As for dub itself. There's a few odd lines here and there, but I believe the new dubbing company took over during the Frontier arc. So they're still new at this. I do know their writing sounds better in XY. 

Anyone else watched this series? I'm going to keep writing my thoughts here as I watch it. I hope this series pushes me to beat the gen four games.

I joined Serebii forum back in 2010 or so, maybe earlier than that. I'm pretty sure Platinum version was long since released when I joined.

If it was only the voices I would have tolerated it, but there were so many things that made the diamond and pearl season the worst.

A lot of people, myself included, absolutely loath Dawn's Piplup. Between its status as a forced second mascot and it constantly being an obnoxious, attention seeking brat, I couldn't even find amusement in how much comic relief abuse it goes through. And it goes through a lot, which means its in the spotlight a lot.

There were other issues, like having Brock and the Team Rocket trio completely reduced to joke characters, so much that this was the season that finally got rid of the former, it taking almost 60 episodes between the second and third gyms, and Team Plasma only appearing in 11 of the 190 or so episodes.

Takeshi Shudo, the writer for the earlier seasons, was said to have been so dissatisfied with the direction the show was being taken in that he left the show because of it, particularly the way his characters (like the TR Trio) were being handled.

Interestingly, he was also one of the people behind Minky Momo. which had a few of its plotlines borrowed by the Pokemon anime, such as the Ghost of Maiden's Peak episode and the ending to the first Pokemon movie.

I like dawn okay from what I remember, I've completely left the anime aside from episodes where favorite gym leaders/game characters show up - so I'm probably not the best judge XD

I knew Takeshi Shudo passed away in Oct. 2010, so I looked up the airing for the DP episodes - interestingly enough the last Japanese DP episode was that September. But it looks like Takeshi Shudo isn't even credited with working on the Ruby/Sapphire episodes (Advanced) so maybe he left before then? (although working in animation without credit isn't rare)

I'm five episodes in so far so good. Piplup doesn't annoy me. I don't mind bratty characters despite not liking bratty people in real life. Lol

As for Rocket. Yeah they are really silly in this. O.o But I can ignore it.

DP is my favourite Pokemon Saga, hands down.

Dawn is my favourite female, and I ship her and Ash pretty hard ^_^

The filler episodes are really good, and have great character development, and the battles don't bore me, like they do in other saga's. 

I just love DP so much, and I'm enjoying XY because it feels similar to how DP was (I can't stand BW)

Just talking about DP makes me want to watch it all over again (which I AM planning to do, because although i've seen all the episodes, I never watched it from start to finish, if that makes any sense) xx
