While the magical girl genre is full of nice uplifting things that should be emulated in your everyday life - but letting out those negative feelings can be good for you too
We all have shows that we watch or read, hoping that it'll be good, only to be severely disappointed.
So disappointed that you just want to ramble on and on about how mad you are and hope that no one else has the same experience you did. Cuz lets face it, there's alot of great shows out there. But there's also some that smell like garbage. Life's too short to watch garbage.
Here's a good healthy way to vent your frustrations and complain. Maybe even warn others about it.
Rule # 1 and Only 1: This is simply for venting and critiquing the media in question. Personal attacks and/or Grudges against fandoms should not be mentioned. (We're a pretty friendly group here I know, but the last thing I want is for it to get out of hand or for a flame war to start in the future)
That said! Lets start complaining!

So, I just watched the 1st episode of "Magical Canan", a TV friendly reboot and adaptation of a Hentai Game/OVA from the late 90s of the same name.
Going into it I wasn't exactly expecting anything stellar. But I was atleast hoping for effort.
Oh my god is this is a lazy piece of garbage. First of all the budget looks like it was about $10 per episode. There's this scene where a monster chases her and I laughed so bad
(oh yeah, thats the stance to take when you see Zekrom at the convenience store)
Also, the point of a first episode is to get me invested in the rest of your story. I could not care any less about what was going on by the end. Nothing's really explained, its just little....Chihaya? is that her name? meeting other characters and they all stand around wondering what kind of animal she found is (I swear like they kept saying like "is it a tanuki?" in what universe does this purple ryo-ohki ripoff thing look like a tanuki?)
Oh, I thought that since this show was for TV it wouldn't be fanservicey (I had heard that it was even toned down for kids to watch). NOPE. 1st shot of our heroine is in a school swimsuit. Then in the dressing room. (She's like 13? 14? i guess. but looks like she's 10 cuz, ya know, anime.) Then later there's a bath scene. and in her transformation she's stark naked. This show's one job really was to not make me uncomfortable - and it couldn't even do that.
and if that wasn't enough to prove that the studio really could not give any less of their effort here's the ending sequence.
The character model sheets. Up against a colored background that has three movements.
In short, if the people making this can't even put in enough effort to make something. Why should you put in the effort to watch it.

I wonder if it occurred to you when you made this thread...
That if I saw it, I would certainly use it to vent my frustration and hatred toward Madoka Magica.
I'm holding you responsible for any controversy it causes.
Since the show is spoiler incarnate, I'll be hiding this lengthy ramble in a spoiler. Brace yourselves.
Spoiler:
Nah. I'm kidding. I'm not gonna use this thread as an excuse to rant about that show, when it has done nothing to frustrate me recently.

actually i had thought about that XD but I was willing to take the risk
My rage for Magical Canan outweighed the consequences.
sometimes you just gotta let it out. although your hatred for PMMM runs pretty deep. this is more for on the spot "NO THIS IS BAD YOU GUYS" outbursts you might feel like typing out
Mermaid Melody. Oh how I despise this show! I love the idea of using mermaids in a magical girl show, but did they really have to have them sing to kill their enemies? I love musicals and I love the random songs in MLP:FIM, but I don't want to hear a song every episode! Plus I am very picky it when it comes to music especially Japanese music.

I hate Mermaid Melody alot too XD, but the thing that gets me about the singing is that it's not explained.
Why? Why does a mermaid pop song hurt them? Is it too pure to handle? So bad to listen to that it drives them away? Subliminal messages? Compel them to run their ships into jagged rocks? Eardrums bleeding? What? TELL ME
but their shallowness and thirst for boys is really what drove me away. I'm a pretty big romantic, romance is A-OK in my media. But Like everyone is crazy about boys - no matter what the conflict happens, somehow it keeps coming back to boys.
ugh. just ugh. This is pretty much Mermaid Melody in 2 minutes

I was totally expecting to read a hella-long rant about PMMM and then I clicked on it and was like oh.. then I laughed out loud XD
Let's see... I don't like how in SM and basically all other magical girl shows, the heroines repeat information 15 times before talking further about it or taking action to it. Like, the villian will tell the girls their evil plan and every single magical girl present will basically repeat what she said.
And they do it over and over and over and over, until your shaking the tv/computer like "I GET THAT SHE'S GONNA BLOW UP THE PLANET OK I UNDERSTAND CAN WE PLEASE.MOVE. ON."
I get that it's probably just something they do to get the story across and get the kids to understand it better but seriously. After the 4th time it's just getting ridiculous -.-
That bit about blowing up the planet reminds me of how utterly repetitive Smile Precure's villains were.
Every episode was the same thing. They're doing something like watching TV, they see something interesting and decide to go do it.
Then they utter the same lines, swipe the same ink onto the same book, talking about the energy for Pierrot, then we see the same clock. I bet the characters and their audio were recycled stock in those scenes.
And you know what really irked me about Smile?
Episode 23: We got the last Cure Decor-kuru!
Episode 24: We got the next Decor-kuru!
I mean I know this is a repetitive formula show, but there was so much drama about getting the last decor before.

I do not like Heartcatch Precure: The the monster of day is more repetitive than Sailor Moon. I have tried watching the series twice. It' painful to watch. Plus in my opinion Shugo Chara's victims eggs going bad is much better written than heartcatch's victims. Erika annoys the crap out of me. Plus her voice hurts my ears. The fairies also annoy the crap out me. Those items that come out of their butts is not funny to me. It's weird. I don't see how the action is better in Heartcatch. Looks like normal precure action to me.

A trend in magical girl anime (any anime really) that I wish would shrivel up and die is the perverted mascot/sidekick.
I mostly see this is magical girl parodies/comedies (Nurse Witch Komugi for example) aimed at older audiences.
But it's not funny. I don't know when little animals commenting about breasts ever became funny. But someone apparently thought it was and puts it in lots of shows. Whoever that was, please send him or her to a creative writing class and not to come back until they come up with better material. It's weird. It's gross. Stop

I wish I was super hyped for the new Sailor Moon anime. Just why did it have to follow the manga more closely? I was really hoping that it would retell the story in its own way. If I want to see the manga storyline I can just read it.
One of the things that bugs me is when people say that Madoka is the only magical girl show that explains where the mascots come from and answers the question of why they would enlist fourteen year old girls to fight dangerous monsters.
Clearly these people have never even seen a magical girl show and they just think these things happen "just because".
Disregarding Cute Witch shows, there's usually a very specific reason for why it has to be the main characters, like Usagi being the reincarnation of the Moon Princess.
In most cases, there's usually a very urgent need for such magical warriors, like a powerful threat that won't just invisibly make people commit suicide. This makes the mascots desperate to find someone who can stand up to the threat.
I'll let Cure Muse take it from here.
The Powers of Love and Friendship are often the source of a Magical Girl's power. When things are at their darkest and these young ladies still refuse to give up, and they're willing to fight tooth and nail for the sake of their loved ones, a miracle is born!
This kind of thing is why I can't imagine there being too many adult Magical Girls. Not to say that adults are bitter and cynical, just that things like bonds of friendship don't seem as strong with them.
And of course the biggest thing of all is. MAGICAL GIRL SHOWS ARE MEANT TO BE EMPOWERING TO YOUNG GIRLS. /drops mic.
