It's possible. I raged quit this game. A cat wanted fruit for its house and the game didn't give any of the Citrus furniture. Just the pieces she wanted for her place and they didn't come up in catalog. The only thing that came up was the bowl of fruit she wanted. I got a bunch of fruit, but I WILL NOT LET HER LIVE IN A HOUSE WITHOUT PROPER FURNITURE!

Don't worry! You can go back and edit houses later! In fact, it's better if you do, as you unlock more and more features as you play.
