| Disney Channel's newest animated series... is a magical girl show? Not even five minutes in and this show proved to be completely insane. It's about the magical girl equivalent of Mabel Pines, who happens to be the princess of a kingdom in some magical world. She receives the magic wand you see in the picture above and immediately goes nutter-butters with it. She freaks out thinking her parents are going to imprison her, or banish her, or imprison her in the place that they banish her to, but instead they simply believe she needs to learn to be more responsible. And where is the best place for that? School. A school in the human world as a matter of fact. There she meets Marco, a red hoodie wearing kid who's looking for a little danger and excitement in his life. He quickly regrets those thoughts when he meets Princess Star Butterfly, our off the wall protagonist. Then there's this legion of villains who are out to steal the wand from Star.... and that's about as far as I got before turning the TV off. |

| It truly is a sad state of affairs. This trend of having incredibly stupid main characters doing stupid things in stupid ways without any real consequences whatsoever really brings down the quality and watch-ability of cartoons. What's especially bad is you can tell a decent amount of creativity when into this project; for example the kid in the hoodie does provide a bit of a tsukomi to Star's boke, much to the show's credit. Some of the visuals are nice too. But not enough to render the show watchable. |

| I kindof like it actually. I laughed in a few places and I really like Marco and Star's budding friendship.
It's not something I see myself obsessing over, but its entertaining enough to me to watch.
If nothing else, I'm glad for more women in the animation world getting more Creative Properties made. (Daron Nefcy's a pretty cool lady too)
Marco is my favorite character btw. |

| I watched it back in January. I was really looking forward to it since Disney has not made a magical girl series since W.I.T.C.H.
When I watched it, it was nothing that I expected. I did not like it at all.The characters are dumb and loud, especially Star. The villains are useless and generic. The show itself reminds me of Johnny Test or some obnoxious cartoon that I cannot stand it (sorry for anyone who likes this show). The animation is good though, similar to Steven Universe and Gravity Falls.
I don't get the hype that is going on with this cartoon. It just my opinion. |

| ^ Pretty much my exact feelings on it. Star especially is just quirky and ridiculous to the max. The only thing that could have made Star a more annoying character is if she had the same voice as Mabel Pines.
It's clearly a boy's show. Wacky characters doing wacky things. All it needs now is an episode where the characters say nothing but the word "waffles" over and over. |

| It's a boy show? I never realized that. I thought it was a girl show like Kim Possible or My Little Pony because of the female protagonist. The jokes are pretty boy-humored. You do have a point.
It makes sense since it's on Disney XD. Star is too quirky, in a bad way. If she had a high pitched-voice, I would have been more irritated of her. Does it even have an ongoing or complex plot? Nope. It's too wacky and random. I expected more from them, but my expectations were too high. |

I disagree, I feel like their aim is more gender neutral. Or at least "girl" show that boys should find something to enjoy too. I mean, if there was ever merchandise of this show i imagine Star Butterfly fashion dolls to be one of the 1st things, like Kim Possible - female lead, typical "girl show" tropes like romance and other school drama. But still enough action and spy stuff to interest the little brothers in the room too (pretty sure Kim Possible has a big gender neutral fanbase |

| I just watch the opening only, but the show to me seems gender neutral. Like Bunny said it has a Kim Possible vibe too it.
I think Jem would be another good example of this. It was aim for girls, but they threw in action for the boys. The show was throw in a time slot between two boy shows. They didn't want to lose the boy viewers for the second show. |

| Speaking of which, I follow Daron Nefcy on tumblr, and apparently Star Butterfly was originally a normal girl who pretended that she had magical powers. which, I think would be funny but I think I'm happy with the way it ended up.
here's some of the early comics, plus more on her site: http://daronnefcy.com/post/118811443376/two-more-early-star-comics-from-2010-when-star |

| I watched the first episode (well, okay, two episodes since they're paired), and I actually liked it! I think a large part of why I liked it is because I just know that if this had come out when I was a child, it easily would've been my favorite show. I loved that type of random humor, and I loved shows with female protagonists. Because of that, I can't bring myself to dislike the show at all, and I came into it pretty critical.
The only thing I can really say I disliked is Star's voice, but that's probably just because I'm spoiled on Japanese shows. I would've preferred if her voice was a little younger sounding. She sounded way older than fourteen.
Also, I really liked the character designs. In a weird way, Star and her parents remind me of Minky Momo. And the wand was obviously a homage to Sakura's wand, so I loved that. |

| I love Star vs The Forces of Evil! I find it to be entertaining, Marco is such a cutie and i actually like wacky randomness of it.
My favourite episodes have to be Cheer up Star, Quest Buy, Freeze Day, St Olga's Reform School for Wayward Princesses and surprisingly, Mewberty.

| Meh, this show just isn't for me. I'm not into ridiculously wacky characters doing wacky things for no purpose than to be wacky. But if other people like it, that's okay. |

| I like it. Is it my absolute favorite show? No. But it's silly and enjoyable. But it's not that great of a show. |
