| One thing I've noticed about Magical Girl shows, Precure in particular is that the characters names have a special significance to them, often serving as an indicator to what kind of Cure they'll be.
Let's take the heroine of Heartcatch for example.
Tsubomi is the Japanese term for a flower bud. Her last name, Hanasaki translates as "Blooming flowers". It would only be expected that her Cure name follow the same scheme.
Ojamajo Doremi having a strong musical theme it makes perfect sense that the main character's name is tied to music. They're certainly less subtle about it than Precure. Just look at Onpu. Not only is her head shaped like a music note, but the name Onpu literally means "Music Note."
Shugo Chara is also pretty unsubtle about naming a character who sings "Utau".
Princess Tutu being very rooted in things of the German variety uses that language in some of its naming conventions. Dark Magical Girl Princess Kraehe's name is German for "Crow"
I'm not even gonna try with the Tokyo Mew Mew characters. I just can't figure out why the character named Ichigo has pink hair... |

| Her last name, Momomiya, contains the kanji for momo, which means pink. The Mew's all have some form of their main color in their family names. The male characters have their last names from different wards in Tokyo. |

Also strawberries are often just associated with pink i mean, just think of all the strawberry sweets in the world --------- In anycase, Sailor Moon is also really good about giving meaningful names that tie in to what their powers are or just some fun mythology references. Usagi Tsukino "Rabbit of the Moon" is based on Japanese/Chinese lore that has rabbits living on the moon (for various circumstances) Since you mentioned Shugo Chara - I really like the meaning behind Amu's name. "Amu" is the Japanese pronunciation of english's "Am" ,as in "I am __" because Amu can be anything she wants to be. Utena's name means "Calyx" which is the part of the stem that protects the flower (or the collective term for the sepals) meanwhile "Tenjou" can mean 'heaven'

| Also Strawberries are tie with the color pink. XD
From Sailor Moon:
Usagi's full name: Rabbit of the Moon Chibiusa: Small Rabbit Ami's full name: Friend of Water Rei's full name: Beauty of Fire Mako's full name: Sincerety of Wood Minako's full name: Beautiful Child of Love Mamoru's full name: Defender of Earth Haruka's full name: Distant Sky/Heaven Ruler Michiru's full name: Full/mature/to rise Sea Ruler Sestuna's full name: Instant/Moment Dark Ruler Hoatru's full name: Earth Sprouting Firefly
Most Sailor Moon character names are tie to their power/mythology. Like Minako is Sailor Venus. Roman Goddess Venus is tied to love and beauty. Hence her name meaning and why she refers to herself as the senshi of beauty and love. |

i mean, just think of all the strawberry sweets in the world I feel like you might have missed the joke I was making. The joke being that it was incredibly obvious why a character named Ichigo would have pink hair, especially when her co-stars are all named after various edibles of colors. |

| Oh, here's an obvious one, Sakura Kinomoto means "Cherry Blossoms" and "Origin of Wood" which plays into the flower theme of the characters. Toya "Peach Blossoms" & Nadeshiko (a type of Japanese carnation that is synonymous with femininity) also tie in with the floral theme. (I forget what Fujitaka means)
Shaoran on other hand means "Little Wolf" and Meiling means "Strawberry Bell" |

| Cure Princess' first name in HapCha Precure is 'Hime'. No points to anyone who can figure out how they correlate. It's sort of like buying a pet dog and calling it 'Canine' |

In their defense, 'Hime' is a fake name she created for herself. "Princess" is also a cure identity she chose for herself too. Himelda Window just wants everyone to freaking know she's a princess XDD I think that its pretty telling of who her character was at the start of the show. that the only thing she identifies with herself is being a princess - no other traits, just "Ima princess, so that makes me special-dont judge me" but I guess as a writer its a pretty lazy name. Heck, even "Himelda" was probably born from: "who's a famous princess we could use" "....uh." *hides 3DS* "....Zelda?" "perfect!" |

| For another HaCha character...
"Megumi" either means Goddess or Blessing and "Ai" means love hence her Magical Girl Warrior name Cure Lovely.
And from Precure's own wiki.
Omori (大森?): Means "great forest".
Yuko (ゆうこ?): Yūko can be written using different kanji characters, but can mean 裕子 ("fertile, child").
I'm honestly surprised her name doesn't mean "Bowl of rice" cause that's literally all she is. |
