With Mother's Day around the corner I thought I'd take a minute to extend some appreciation to the fictional ladies who gave us our sparkling messengers of love and justice.

Sadly not many of them get a lot of focus, but when they do, they tend to leave quite an impression.



Ikuyo Hoshizora of Smile Precure


Miyuki's mom is one of the prettiest ladies I've ever seen in an anime. This gives her the unfortunate fate of having much porn drawn of her, so much that she gets almost no clean art drawn of her. Ikuyo's personality is very gentle and loving, as shown when she does not once express exasperation at her daughter's clumsy antics.



Haruka Harukaze of Ojamajo Doremi

The mother of our title character Doremi, Haruka is typically shown to be comical and tsundere, doing her best to keep her husband from running off to go fly fishing. When Doremi and her friends end up taking care of a magical infant, Haruka quickly steps up to coach Doremi on raising the baby.

This pic comes from one of the most meaningful scenes in the series, where it's revealed that Haruka's dream of becoming a great pianist, but an injury ended her career. She fell into suicidal depression after that, but being pregnant with Doremi gave her the strength to keep going.





Megumi Yumehara and Kazuyo Natsuki of Yes Precure 5

The mothers of Nozomi and Rin respectively, these two are just so precious. What little we see of them reveals that their friendship is much like that of their daughters, with Megumi being a clumsy screw-up and Kazuyo looking out for her.



Natsume Morisawa of Creamy Mami

When your daughter isn't as squeaky clean as a Precure, you have to be a little on the strict side. If Yuu does something like sneak out or make snarky comments, she can expect her mother to bend her over her knees and deliver the palm of old timey discipline.

Like Haruka above, Natsume is of the stubborn, tsundere variety, as one episode illustrates when her husband leaves home after an argument. Natsume goes to great lengths to show that she doesn't care if he never comes back after Yuu calls her to tell her she found him. But as soon as she hangs up the phone she explodes, jumping for joy that her husband has been located.

Yoko Kazuki from Magical Emi

I dunno what it is, but I just find Mai's mother, Yoko, to be beautiful. She's always patient and kind to her high-spirited children and always getting things done no matter how hard they may seem.


Nadeshiko Kinomoto from CCS

speaking of beautiful. aside from Tomoyo, I think Nadeshiko is actually my favorite CCS character. I like the sort of air-headed and sweet personality she had. Some could say she was even a little wreckless when it came to doing the right thing (Climbing trees to save birds for example) but her genuine personality is now passed through Sakura and Nadeshiko continues to love and support her family even in the next life.


Cinnamon Meilleure of Sugar Sugar Rune

Cuz how cool is a lady who starts a secret revolution of the magical world to end segregation? And still tries to support her brash headstrong daughter to become a tough but loving woman from a distance.

Hmm... how about our favorite magical girls as mothers?

I was waiting for someone to mention that series, though I expected it to be the mother of the pink haired time traveler instead.

I was also going to post that, but I couldn't find an image...

(I know this thread is old but) I'd like to mention Ikuko Tsunkino from Sailor Moon. She's just a really good parent.
