I finally got around to reading Magic Knight Rayearth after a long period of reading absolutely no manga. :P
I think that the first half of the story was kind of obnoxious with how often it hung a lampshade on the fact that CLAMP based the story off of JRPGs they played. There were so many times the characters would say something along the lines of "WOW THIS IS JUST LIKE AN RPG!!!" that it honestly started to sound like "WOW LOOK AT ALL THESE CLICHES WE BORROWED FROM OTHER MEDIA LOL". Like, I get it, they were inspired by something but it got annoying very quickly.
I also found the whole dynamic between Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu to be rather... Forced. Most of their closeness came from their constant declarations of friendship - it would've been nice to see more development go into actual interactions with each other instead of just screaming "WE'RE BEST FRIENDS!! WE'RE SISTERS!! WE WILL FIGHT TOGETHER!!" constantly.
The second half of the story was good, though I do wish that more time was spent with the main characters than the newly introduced ones. You could kind of tell that those characters weren't going to go anywhere in the story, anyway, so it was kind of a chore to read through those segments. XD
Overall, though, it was okay. Not my favorite, but not everything's going to be. :P That's my thoughts.
