Made by Toei Animation back in 1966, Sally The Witch was the first magical girl anime to grace the world (though a couple of manga may have pre-dated it), and paved the way for the likes of Minky Momo and other shows to follow.
It seems to have started a lot of trends that I've seen in cute witch style shows, like the main character being a princess from another world, who sets up an identity as a normal girl in the human world and uses her magic to help others and solve problems.
I'd give it a watch if there were more episodes available. I really don't want to get attached to another only to constantly cry about the lack of available episodes. Looks cute and interesting though.

I've seen the episodes they've subbed (they skipped ahead to do some color eps., but then go back to finish the B&W ones) with 109 episodes total, I don't blame a fansubber taking their time
Its too bad old anime doesn't have as many collectors in the U.S. as say, old Disney/Warner Bros. cartoons - cuz I could totally see like a "criterion" collection of atleast the black and white eps. as part of some animation nerd's collection. I mean, it's on DVD in Japan, so it's not like its lost forever but, I dunno, I just wish there was a market for it that's not Osamu Tezuka fans
In any case, I think anyone who's really interested in magical girls should watch at least some of it. Also, it's a good counter point to the argument that magical girls are all about fighting.
I wonder if we'll ever get another Sally spin-off
I mean, there's the one in the 80's - but Sally's a cartoon that a lot of Japanese people know Like, this Music Video of some idol group covering the theme song came out FIVE days ago
I've seen the first episode of this, along with the 90s movie version, it's quite cute so I'm surprised it isn't more popular. Maybe the black & white of the initial episodes puts people off. If a fansub group ever decides to do the rest (or even the second series) I would be very interested.
