PostSubject: Cowboy Bebop   Thu Dec 25, 2014 11:01 pm

How is there not a topic for this anime yet? One of our staff members hasn't been doing their job properly! /kidding

Anyway Cowboy Bebop is the day to day adventures of a group of bounty hunters in space, struggling to put food on their tables while tackling a variety of strange bounties and other things that end up being more like detective cases.

Apparently the anime flopped in Japan, but was much more appreciated in the west due to its very western style, particularly its music. The English dub is regarded as one of the best in all anime, and may have very well made Steve Blum's career.

The most common criticism the show seems to receive is that it's "episodic", meaning most episodes are self contained stories with little to no connection between the episodes.

I think this makes it very accessible to Western viewers, as TV networks tend to not know what the heck they're doing with schedules, and prefer shows that can be aired in any order.

I think my favorite moment in the entire series would have to be in the episode "Brain Scratch", when Jet and Ed are trying to get information from the security guard and Ed (wearing an adorable pink dress) is clinging to Jet and cheering "Papa!" constantly.

I used to not care for Faye, seeing as how I'm not all that fond of the femme fatale types, but she proves that even those types of characters can have deeper sides to them, and by the end of the show she grows to be a very likable and sympathetic character.

All in all Cowboy Bebop is an anime I would recommend to anyone who is looking to get their start with anime, or is very experienced with anime. It's an enjoyable ride if you're not expecting it to be a masterpiece, or expecting it to have an intricate plot.

I fail! Ed is sorry!

I love Ed, and I agree that I don't really care for Faye either, but she has her place in the story. I really feel that the anime gets better when Ed joins the crew, and well I feel like it drops off after she leaves but it made sense her leaving then.

I actually got my non anime watching sister to watch this and she had a hard time staying with it without Ed lol. I guess Ed is just the best!

I like the show with or without her, but she does provide quite a bit of comedy. And I guess that's why she had to leave. I wouldn't want her to have to deal with the darker, more serious parts of the show.

Speaking of Ed, her dub voice actress, Melissa Fahn is one of those voice actresses I don't usually care for, due to all of her roles sounding the same. It works well for snotty characters like Rika from Digimon Tamers, but with Ed she makes the character sound unique. I blame Ed herself being so perky and fun.

I was super confused when I first saw Ed. I thought "Did they really just call her Ed?" Funny that it wasn't her gender that confused me. I knew right away that she was a girl, I just didn't understand why she had the name Ed. FYI my first exposure to her was the Mushroom Samba episode.

Wow. I guess I really am alone; I hate Cowboy Bebop. The crew spent too much time sitting around doing nothing and the bad guy was the only one who got what he wanted. I can appreciate how well it was done(the animation, the dubbing, everything, incredibly high level) but come on, even Big Shot got cancelled! That was a terrible ending!

Not really dude, Bebop isn't everyone's cup of tea and i get that. Personally the lack of activity or like you say them sitting around doing nothing for me is what made the show. it wasn't about catching the bad guy it was about the interpersonal relations between the crew.
