So a couple years ago when my family got those stupid Xfinity Digital Boxes, we were able to regain Cartoon Network after about two years. By that time Adventure Time was in its fourth season and when I saw it airing, I found myself repeatedly forgetting what I was trying to watch in favor of it.
The first episode I watched was the first season episode "Dungeon". It was like unfiltered fanservice to someone like me who is a huge fan of the Legend of Zelda series.
I remember being skeptical of the series due to its noodly character designs, but once I got in there it was actually really weird, but good.
But of course, like many shows that last more than four seasons, problems surface. It can be understandable that people would blame Rebecca Sugar's departure for the downfall of quality in the show. It's not her fault, but it was around that time that the show really started to go downhill.
One of the biggest problems is that the show seems to be defying its own theme. It used to be this fantastical show about this heroic young boy who rescues princesses, battles evil creatures and explores his bizarre world.
Now the show is about a hormonal teenager exploring the dating scene and making stupid decisions that ruin his relationships with women. Two entire episodes, titled "Too Old" and "The Red Throne" feature Finn acting completely oblivious or uncaring of what's going on around him in favor of trying to make moves on a princess.
I was okay with it when Finn and Flame Princess started dating, but much like a sitcom they couldn't just let that stick, and he ended up losing her due to his own stupidity.
Now one of the latest episodes has him making out with princesses all over in what is basically equivalent to cheap one-nighters, just to make himself feel better.
After the latest batch of episodes I have officially surrendered my Adventure Time fandom. Maybe some day it'll either head back in the right direction or get cancelled.
