Thread title is pretty self explanatory. It could either be a complete 180 on your previous opinion or just realising little tidbits that made the show slightly more meaningful/enjoyable to you.

I think a prime example for me would be Sword Art Online which I recently finished re-watching with the English dub. I enjoyed bits and pieces of the first half but the ALO section of the anime rubbed me the wrong way and ended up leaving a bad taste in my mouth. But then again I think being relatively new to anime at the time might have been why I immediately jumped on the anti SAO bandwagon when it was airing. On a re-watch some of my problems went away while others remained. But what I got out of the show was significantly more than I had before. SAO has a lot more going for it than I previously thought. A lot of really interesting ideas, a dynamic setting, great execution and exploration of its themes and above all the show does really well with the development of its cast and building strong relationships between them.

But I think the most amazing part about my re-watch is that I actually grew to enjoy the second half more than the first and also grew to really like Suguha as a character despite disliking her before. The emotional struggle she went through as well as the connection between Kirito and Leafa in the game with Kazuto and Suguha in real life was actually really compelling. I think the 'touchy subjects' they cover might be why I didn't appreciate it on my first viewing but it's all handled maturely. And without going into spoilers, I did realise that a lot of major issues I had with the second half were based on misunderstandings.

I still have quite a number of major issues with the show (Such as the deus ex machina, the cheesy villains and a lot of shallow tactics in the fights) but in retrospect I thought it was really refreshing to watch a show that tries to look at the lighter side of an otherwise grim situation. It's no Fate/Zero but I'd say the show's above average.

Anyway, enough rambling. What are your picks?

Aha! Perfect timing. I just got done watching Precure All-Stars DX2 for the second time.

The first time I watched it was when I had only seen Heartcatch, so I was only familiar with Tsubomi and Erika. Lots of Cures and side-characters were completely foreign to me and I didn't think I'd watch any of the other seasons, so I didn't give a crap about any of them.

Huge mistake. Sure the shows have been hit or miss, but the characters are all pretty lovable in some way. And this time around there was a lot that would have gone right over my head without being fully immersed in the franchise.

Princess Tutu is another fine example of a show I appreciated more on the rewatch. I mean I still have it rated a 10 but when I first watched it I was kind of bored at times and it took me a while to get into it. Not the second time. I was too busy gushing over this series that I already knew I loved.

Then of course there's Madoka. I didn't learn to appreciate the story or the characters, but the animation style is kind of a different story. When I first watched it, it was the TV version on my crappy old monitor. The second time I watched the blu ray 720p version on a gorgeous widescreen monitor. Much better for appreciating the fluid movements of the witch barriers and such.

There are a few shows for me. Tokyo Mew Mew is one I can name off the top of my head. When I first watched it I was in loved with. Like crazy in love with it....

But today I love it more because it brought more to the story than the manga did. The other mews are fleshed out and the aliens are too. It actually makes you question  good vs evil. Like their whole war is pointless if you think about it.

Does it count if I still cried when Master Asia died the second time I watched G Gundam? And speaking of Gundam watching Seed Destiny again made it easier to pick out the easter eggs they threw in. Which if you have watched original, Zeta and ZZ, there were a lot.

As cliched as an answer this might be the second (and third) time I watched Sailor Moon was so much better than the first time mostly due to watching the subtitled version. No cut episodes, messed up names, wrong ages or genders. Subtitles are so much better than dubs...

The original GI Joe cartoon that was also better the second time around; as an adult I was able to see what I couldn't as a child (and Duke makes such a good damsel in distress)

Dubs can be good too. ^^

Over the years Sailor Moon S was my favorite season. But recently I prefer the first season over the other seasons. Just something about the first season makes me love it more over the other 4.

i would have to go with yes cause for me with my memory problems it's like getting to discover it all over again. If i don't keep up with stuff from a show on a regular basis i tend to forget about it rather quickly.

Ouran High School Host Club. This show always amazes me every time I rewatch it. The characters are fleshed out pretty good. I need to read the manga.

I'm going to say yes, but my most recent example would be a reread rather than a rewatch (mostly because it's long and easier to read through than watch a ton of filler).  I just started rereading Detective Conan (aka Case Closed in the US).  I read through it a couple years ago and followed the cases as they came out, but the most recent arc was feeling drawn out and uneventful so I ended up losing my motivation to keep with it.

I enjoyed it on my first read through, but I was more interested in the little instances of plot rather than the cases themselves.  The manga has a surprisingly high reread value for a mystery series.  I remember a lot of the early cases, but now I can read through and notice the little clues at the same time as Conan.  I'm pretty unobservant, so I usually just go with the flow, smile, and nod by the time the case resolution comes around.  It's pretty exciting to notice things on my own, even if it's only because I remember the case.  Hopefully I can keep with it this time.

On another note, I had the same issue with SAO's second arc.  I haven't gone back and rewatched it (mostly because the villain made me uncomfortable on quite a few levels), but I might give it another shot now that I know what to expect.

Mew Ami, I completely agree with you on Tokyo Mew Mew and Ouran.

Yes, I loved them so much when I first watched them, but back then I just enjoyed them for what they were. Now, whenever I re-watch them (funny how i'm halfway through re-watching Ouran now) I love them a lot more. They have a much more deeper feeling to them.

I also feel the same about Fruits Basket. Although I've watched all three of these series more than three times, I still enjoy them more each time :) xx
