There's still a few shows left to have their first episode but as of now the season is now more or less fully underway
Pilot's Love Song is probably the best first episode so far. The atmosphere is great, the score is grand, the romance was handled well, it has some of my favourite seiyuu (Including my absolute favourite seiyuu Ayana Taketatsu who also performs the opening song with Aoi Yuuki as part of the idol duo petit milady) and it looks like there could be some interesting developments later on. I have high expectations so I really hope it doesn't disappoint
Moving on to sequels we have another highly anticipated show in the form of Chuunibyou Ren, the sequel to the 2012 anime. Not very eventful but a fun re-introduction with a fantastic new OP and ED. On a side note, I've noticed that I appreciate the show a lot more thanks to 2013 being a massively disappointing year for KyoAni (Well Free was good but two out of three weren't).
Next up we have Saki - The Nationals. A sequel to the 2009 Gonzo anime Saki based on the manga of the same name. Despite having no knowledge of how mahjong works, I watched the original 25 episode season in order to be able to watch this as it airs and I enjoyed it immensely. This first episode doesn't establish much but it does a good job of re-introducing the characters and laying down some groundwork for the remaining 12 episodes.
Although I have to say waiting 4 and a half years for a second season must have been really painful for people who watched it as it aired especially considering the somewhat unsatisfying note that Gonzo's adaptation ended on. There's also the matter of the change of studio. Seeing as Gonzo don't have the money this is being done by Studio Gokumi who adapted the spinoff series Achiga-hen and Kiniro Mosaic earlier this year. The change of studios and the gap between the seasons means the difference in visual quality is quite jarring (Especially considering Saki's animation was sub par even for 2009). But I digress. It's a nice first episode but nothing all that noteworthy so far.
