The four Sundays before Christmas Day are referred to as Advent. Each Sunday, Christians celebrate a certain aspect about Christmas. This is done typically with a Advent Wreath, which has slot for 4 candle around it, and in the center goes a 5th candle. 3 candles are purple 1 candle is pink, and the one in the middle is white.
The first purple candle represents Prophecy or Hope. It represents the word of God and how we can have hope in it.
The second purple candle represents Bethlehem, or the little town that Jesus was born in.
The third candle is the pink one and it represents the shepherds that we visited by the angels on the night of Jesus' birth, and the joyful songs that they sang.
The fourth purple candle represents the Angels themselves and the love they had in their hearts as they spread the news of Jesus' birth. It also represents the love that God has for us as his children.
And the fifth candle is the Christ candle. It is white to represent the purity of Jesus and that his mission when being on Earth was to wash away our sins by dying for us on the cross.
Plus the wreaths are very pretty ^^
