I've started watching it.

It's very cute. The mascots are kind of annoying, but I've only watched the first episode so I shouldn't judge.

Yumi herself is quite lovable. I like how she becomes elated upon receiving the baton and pendant, without even trying to use them.

I like the concept behind her powers, that whatever she draws becomes real. It's something you don't usually see in magical girl shows, and it'd be nice if the concept was used more often.

I'm a wee bit disturbed by what happened at the very end of the first episode though. Yumi draws herself a fancy outfit to win some competition. While she's on stage, her pendant starts flashing, which means there are 30 seconds before her magic runs out. Instead of being returned to her normal clothes, she ends up in her underwear, with a scrolling pan from the knees up.

They kinda made the outfit a surprise, so they didn't show if she took her regular clothes off beforehand, instead of magically creating the outfit around her. But the pan shot was kind of unnecessary when she's wearing literally nothing but a pair of panties with a little ribbon on the front.

I had completely forgot about the shot of her underwear as she was climbing onto the Pegasus she had created midway through the episode. First episode and we're getting rather blatant about this stuff. Definitely not something I'm used to seeing in a show that isn't shounen (Esper Mami) or seinen (Lyrical Nanoha)

Anyway I'm gonna keep going with this one, it's only 25 episodes after all. Animesols only has 14 of the episodes available at the moment.

So it seems AnimeSols couldn't get the funding for this show. Makes me wonder if it's just not gonna be subbed at all. Hmm...

Well I reached episode 7 and I kinda think that's fine by me. The mascots are no longer annoying but no one else besides Yumi and the two of them are likable. I got to the episode where Yumi's parents fight and it was so poorly done it was painful.

The episode before that one is a diet episode. Those always give me mixed feelings in any media. On the one hand I can understand the struggles girls have with self-image, but having the other characters spur these feelings by claiming she has thick arms and legs and then being oblivious that they did anything wrong is just bad writing.

There's also this rich lady who acts as kind of a sitcom arch nemesis to Yumi, and she's very full-figured, which occasionally gets her compared to animals like whales and elephants. Maybe it was funny back in its time, but now... nope.

I'm gonna cast this one to the "On-Hold" section of my MAL account until I can either stir up enough cares to go back to the 14 episodes available, or if AnimeSols successfully finishes releasing it at least for digital streaming.

Well AnimeSols is no more as of May 2015. so unless some fansubber comes along to take up the task of subbing 12 more episodes, then that's about it for Yumi.

Pastel Yumi's side characters a little unlikable yes. I like her friend Kenta and Kyohei the hang-gliding part-timer alright, but the rich lady, her butler and Yumi's grandpa seem to take up a lot of unwanted screen-time. It's a pretty weird show when you watch it XD like there were some weeks where I didn't know what I was going to happen.

I'd say that's almost part of its charm if you're into weird 80s cartoons. (which, I am) but I can see why someone wouldn't enjoy it. 

Although, finally seeing it after years of speculating what Creamy Mami's unpopular cousin was like is a little satisfying. One (old) site mentions "Pastel Yumi isn't like your average magical girl, her family life is hard and her mom's an alcoholic!" well, unless its in a later episode, I couldn't really find any instance of that. So I have no idea what that person was watching XD

but yeah. I wish someone would sub the rest of the series, but *shrug* I've waited this long...

This I was having no idea of. That's a huge drag since it kills not only a nice site to watch anime legally, but also my last hope of a certain other Studio Pierrot Magical Girl show getting subbed.

I was just on there the other day and didn't see any indication that the site was going down. Bah.
